Botulinum
A toxin is used to improve the appearance of "worry lines", "crow's
feet", forehead wrinkles and other so-called dynamic wrinkles. To inactivate
these wrinkles, botulinum A toxin is injected into local muscles very
accurately. After treatment, the overlying skin becomes smoother and
unwrinkled while untreated facial muscles contract normally, allowing
facial expression to be unaffected.
Botulinum A toxin is not permanent and the injections last three to four months.
There
are three main categories of peel, light, medium and deep. A light peel
is suitable for freshening up the skin leaving it smoother and brighter
looking. A medium peel will help to smooth out wrinkles, and reduce
age spots, it is good for sun-damaged skin.
A deep peel is useful for a very sun-damaged skin. The down time will be greater.
Dermabrasion
is a non invasive, non-surgical procedure which uses a highly controlled
spray of fine crystals to remove the outer layer of skin and reveal
the younger, tighter, and more radiant skin underneath.
It is suitable for blackheads, acne, oily skin, some scarring, sun-damaged skin and superficial age spots. It can be combined with special acid peels for a deeper treatment. After treatment the face will look a little flushed and there is little or no down time.
There are quite literally hundreds of dermal fillers available. Most are biodegradable products which
contain hyaluronic acid which is found in all of the cells in our body.
It is a sugar and water solution which breaks down naturally.
They are the treatment of choice for age related lines and wrinkles and they work by supporting the line or wrinkle. Their longevity depends upon injection technique, the amount of product used, skin texture, its movement at the injection site, and metabolic rate.
Microsclerotherapy
is 60 - 80% effective. A small amount of an irritant solution is injected
into the thread veins which displaces the blood within the vein. It
also irritates the vein making it swell and close, thus stopping blood
from re-entering it. Treated veins may disappear within two weeks to
two months.
More than one treatment is usually needed, although most thread veins can be treated over a course of three to four sessions.
Medical
needling or Dermaroller is a good alternative to laser treatment in
people who wish to have less invasive treatment for the treatment of
acne scarring, ageing and sun-damaged skin, fine lines and some stretch
marks.
A hand held roller with ultra-fine needles is passed over the skin making small puncture marks in the dermis which stimulates the production of collagen, elastin and new cells.
Good
skin care tailored to peoples' needs is fundamental to reducing the
formation of lines and wrinkles as 90% skin damage is caused by the
sun and environment. Good skin care including a topical sunblock can
help reverse the signs of ageing. Other useful ingredients of creams
include vitamins A, C and E to counteract free radical damage as well
as glycolic acid to aid cell turnover.
Veinwave
uses a technique called 'thermo-coagulation' which is able to reduce thread veins. A very
fine needle passes a high frequency current into the vein, the heat
causes the vein and its contents to collapse, and the vein disappears.
Sometimes, Veinwave treatment may leave a small micro-crust (scratch) that will disappear after a few days. The treatment can be carried out at any time of the year and on all skin types.
